We are pleased to present our exciting new Tuesday Concert Series for our 2017-18 season. Our programs include wonderful speakers and topics followed by stellar performances from our own talented members.

Unless otherwise noted, all programs are held at Emerson Unitarian Church, 1900 Bering Drive. Our programs are free and open to the public. We welcome guests and would love to have you join us.

How is classical music used in film?  Award-winning composer and a fascinating speaker, Dr. Arthur Gottschalk of Rice University will share with us some of the most important examples of classical music and their use in classic motion pictures.

Developing a professional career as a performing musician is challenging.  Organist, choirmaster, and harpist John Gearhart will discuss teaching highly-accomplished music students and preparing them for an international career in music performance.

Chuck Still – "Houston's Newest Destination for the Arts"

The realization of a dream of four small arts organizations to create a place where artists could collaborate and perform, MATCH is now a dynamic and unique space that is home to a broad spectrum of Houston’s arts.  Chuck Still, the first Executive Director of the recently opened Midtown Arts & Theater Center Houston, will discuss its mission and its impact on the cultural fabric of Houston.

Having lived and performed in Paris, lyric soprano Dominique McCormick is the perfect person to present the French Art Songs of Martial Caillebotte (1853-1910) and the Impressionist paintings by his brother Gustave Caillebotte (1848-1894).

Who doesn’t love chocolate? Just in time for Valentines Day, Annette Mullendore from the Bayou Bend Speakers Bureau presents the story of chocolate’s transition from beverage to culinary delight in the Nineteenth Century.

Carlos Andrés Botero – "Ludwig van Beethoven, Master of Emotion"

International conductor and Musical Ambassador for the Houston Symphony, Colombian-American Carlos Andrés Botero enjoys creating connections between orchestral music and the audience.  Today he will speak on the emotions that permeate Beethoven’s compositions from the middle years.

The Center for Performing Arts Medicine at Houston Methodist Hospital has treated more than 2,000 Houston amateur and professional musicians in addition to assisting visiting performers.  This amazing and immensely successful program is dedicated to meeting the specific needs of musicians.  We are proud to participate in this program in conjunction with CPAM in which we will first learn about the benefits and processes of clinical music therapy.  After the presentation, we will adjourn to the stunning Crain Garden where our performing members will present a concert of music for the staff, patients, and visitors.
